About Me

My name is Lizzie Deal (she/her), and I’m a senior at Drake University from Austin, Texas. I’m a magazine media and writing double major with a minor in marketing.
Writing is vital to my livelihood, and I’ve loved expressing myself creatively through words for as long as I can remember. I most enjoy writing fiction, personal essays, and anything that allows me to harness my imagination through storytelling. I love the feeling of falling into the entrancing world of a novel and I hope that someday I’m able to create something that has the same effect on people and that helps them to love reading as much as I do.
For examples of my writing, check out my portfolio and blog, or shoot me an email if there’s something in specific you’d like to see. You can view my resume here.
When I’m not in class or at work, I can be found reading, writing, or watching movies. I could never pick a favorite book, but my most recent spectacular read was The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. I love to watch Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and throwback TV shows like Scooby Doo. I also spend a great deal of time harassing my family (and friends) for dog photos. My family has two Maltese Poodles (Sally and Bandit) back in Austin who I can never get enough of.
I currently work as an Editorial Apprentice for Real Simple where I pitch and write original stories. I’m trying to discover what it is that I want to do for the rest of my life. Because of my passion for writing, I’ve been exploring marketing, journalism, and creative writing throughout my college career. I’m interested in pursuing opportunities in content writing and publishing. I’d love to be able to use my editing skills and eye for maximizing potential to watch a book grow from an idea to a physical product.
